This painting is of a tiny monkey named a Golden Lion Tamarin. It is on the endangered animal list. He measures about ten inches not including the tail which is quite long. The Golden Lion Tamarins' natural habitat is in Brazil.This small monkey is still under severe threat from continued deforestation, much of which is undertaken to create weekend beach properties. Less than 2% of the forest remains in the region where the golden lion tamarin lives.
